Today we celebrate the feast of the Eucharist. The Eucharist, the Sacred Body and Precious Blood of Christ, is the source and summit of Christian life. It is one of the precious gifts that Christ has given us to remember and celebrate his love for us. The basic need of the human heart never changes and the response to this need never changes either. The need is God and the answer is Jesus Christ, God made flesh. We are all human machines, so to speak, designed by God to run our race with our own fuel. The feast of the Most Holy Trinity is celebrated today. Holy Trinity is a mystery and not a myth. A myth is unreal and contestable. But a mystery is real but incomprehensible to ordinary human reason. Christ made manifest this mystery of the Holy Trinity. He spoke of God as his Father saying, “All that the Father has belongs to me” {John 16: 15}; he often called himself, “The Son of God”, and he spoke of the third divine person as “the Spirit of Truth” {John 16:13}. India, which is 83 percent Hindu, is a country of minorities. Christianity came to India in two main phases: {1} The first Century Missionary Activity of Thomas, the Apostle and, {2} The Western Missionary Activity [1500-1975]. In between these two phases there were several interrupted contacts. For example, The French Missionary Jordanus Catalani arrived in Surat, in the West Coast of India, in 1320. In 1321, he landed in a place called Bhatkal near Mangalore and established a Mission Station there. There is much evidence to suggest that he converted many local inhabitants to Christianity.
